JANUARY PURCHASES

& OTHER STORIES camera bag  ZARA cashmere cardigan ⎜ ISABEL MARANT x H&M dress
CELINE Audrey sunglasses ⎜ MASSIMO DUTTI camel coatZARA slip dress

The first month of the year is now officially over and although I promised myself to cut back on the shopping, I've been quite mild to myself in January. Sales always seduce me to "quickly pop by" stores and "just browse" online shops, especially when I'm eager to score items I've been luring at for quite some time. Yes, I'm talking about the camera bag, the camel coat and the slip dress! As usual, I also purchased some things from the new collection that were on my wishlist. I finally managed to chase down the Céline Audrey sunglasses (thanks Kim!) and treated myself after my last exam! Aren't they just a dream? They're definitely a blogger hype but I feel like this frame is the perfect one for my face. For me they're definitely worth the wait. Another treasure I miraculously got my hands on is this Isabel Marant pour H&M dress. I hopelessly failed in lining up back in November and by the time I got in, the dress was obviously sold out. My internet browsing skills come in handy sometimes and a few weeks ago I suddenly tracked down this beauty (my size, unworn with tags ànd for a cheaper price!) somewhere in Amsterdam. Summer better arrives soon so I can pretend to be all hobo chic. Now, the good thing here is that I haven't indulged in impulsive shopping, except for the cashmere cardigan that was 60% off and that I'm loving big time now. Joy!

In the beginning of the year I told you about the 5 Piece Wardrobe system that I was really curious about. I'm still not quite sure wether this is my ideal shopping system. The thing is that I'm not that minimalistic blogger with a closet that consists of about seven white/grey/black pieces and I do like a cheap and fun impulse buy now and then. I did make a list of basics I still need but finding these seems harder than I thought. Still haven't stumbled upon the perfect boyfriend jeans or my dream pair of grey skinny jeans, for example. But, the search continues and this week is fully dedicated to detoxing my wardrobe! It's something I'd recommend you filling your Saturday afternoon with, since it's so liberating. Grab yourself a glass of wine, invite a friend, put on your favourite music and throw out all of the unnecessary! Freedom.

TALENT SHOW THINKING

It's already past midnight but I forced myself to prepare this post for you guys before going to bed! Life has been busy and although I'm longing for some (blogging!) routine, I'm not really looking forward to classes starting again later this week. I could definitely use some more days off to relax, visit Ikea and go to the gym... Anyway, this is what I wore on a comfy coffee-and-afterwards-The-Voice-UK-date with fwiends last week! Have you been watching The Voice UK this season? It's the first time that I'm following this show and I'm hooked on the cozy family feel between the coaches! As a Kaiser Chiefs fan I obviously love checking out (hot!) Ricky and I must say that Miss Kylie charms me as well. Legend Tom Jones and Mr. Shirt Tied Around Waist Will.I.Am provide the funniest faces while trying to decide to press the button or not. And of course the performance level is about ten times higher than the Belgian version! I do have high expectations of Regi though... Are you a talent show watcher? What's your favourite one? Photos by V. Verlinden.

VINTAGE SHORTS

WRANGLER vintage shorts via BRAG VINTAGE

Bum on photo. Sorry to disturb you. But raise your hand if you love vintage shorts! I absolutely do, and I like em ragged and oversized. Unfortunately Antwerp doesn't have a huge selection of vintage stores that offer these kind of shorts. This is where The Holy Internet comes in handy! If you know your size (I'm a 28 jean size and usually go for a 32 or 33 for an oversized effect) you can order these wardrobe basics (!) within just a few clicks. A great example of such an online shop is Brag Vintage, a UK based vintage store that asked me to pick my favourite item from their stock. I went for a pair of fitted black shorts for a change, but also adore these oversized hot pink ones and these navy velvet ones. The prices are a lot cheaper than let's say Urban Outfitters, but I'd suggest that you and your girl/boyfriends order together to avoid high shipping costs. Did I mention they have a great selection of denim jackets and vintage dresses as well? Happy shopping!

THOSE PLEATHER PANTS

VILA c/o pleather pants OASAP c/o military jacket H&M striped sweater MASSIMO DUTTI coat

Let me introduce you to my new favourite pants: these baggy pleather VILA trousers. They are a DREAM and I've been living in them for about two weeks now. I'm still absolutely astonished by how 1) cool, 2) flattering (I'm being serious!) and 3) hella comfortable these are. This piece is a first preview of the City line available in August and September that is right up my alley! Unfortunately the pants won't be available in any VILA store in Belgium but let's keep our fingers crossed that we can purchase them online. Now, this look is most likely going to be (the base of) my spring uniform. It's something I feel both comfortable and cool in and that's exactly what I need for hanging out studying at university on a daily base. The mix of stripes, pleather and army green is a dream combo for every casual chic day of the week. Anyway, I hope you can draw some inspiration from this outfit for yourself. Have a great weekend & Valentine's Day! Photos by Lisa M.

SHOPPING TIP: MANGO JACKET

To celebrate this wonderful Sunday I'm sharing a great shopping tip with you! Earlier this week I stumbled upon this badass textured faux leather biker jacket at Mango that doesn't only seems to be of quite good quality but also has a very reasonable price. For my 1m78 it seemed a tad too short but I'm sure that the shorter girls among us can easily turn this jacket into a daily favourite. I can picture it with the classic model look (think skinny jeans and buckle boots) and something more boho with a floral dress. Since most Mango stores are closed today, I'll give you the link to purchase it at either Mango or Asos! Happy Sunday!

THE BOMBER JACKET

Being a woman is a lot of fun and all (bras! ice cream! reality tv!), but most of the time I just want to drown in really cool boy's clothes instead of showing the entire world what miss mother nature gave me (hello voluptuous bosom). No matter what mood I am in, I always feel comfortable while wearing something oversized, a pair of trainers and a beanie. It might not always look elegant but should I always care? I'd choose cool over pretty in any case. Anyway, I had a super long day at work today so I hope that when you are reading this in the morning, I'm still playing dead underneath a mountain of pillows. Excuse me for the short talk but writing seems quite impossible right now. See you soon! Photos by Lisa M.

DARK SPRING LOOK

A little while ago I exclaimed on Twitter that I should wear lipstick more often, since my natural lip colour is quite neutral. I haven't purchased anything yet (though I set my mind on the famous Ruby Woo) but my friend Valerie lend me her dark MAC lipstick to play around a bit. This beauty look isn't one that I would wear for going to university for example, but it would definitely spice up my quite boring make-up routine. What I'm also looking for is a soft, fresh and matte tomato red lipstick but it seems quite difficult to get my hands on a good one. Please tell me, what are your favourite lipsticks and lip colours?

About the look: this is what I've been wearing for the past two weeks or so. I do really need about three extra pairs of boyfriend jeans to keep up with the daily similar outfits. This look contains all of my current favourite items: the home knitted beanie I got from my godmother, the best black rib jumper ever, those awesome Zara booties I snatched up in sale, the beloved Céline sunglasses and my very first designer bag that still makes my eyes twinkle. I hope that your eyes twinkle as well on this early Monday morning! Have a great week x Photos by Valerie Verlinden.

SUBTLE H&M BRACELET

This week has been hella busy but luckily I had a quick moment to shoot my outfit with my friend Valerie. Earlier this week I stopped by at H&M to check out the New Icons Collection and that's where I stumbled upon this gorgeous piece of subtle jewellery. I'm not sure if the word 'bracelet' covers the whole package but I can tell you it's super versatile (aka perfect for daily wear) and a great bargain (€4,95 I believe) as well. I just hope it will last a little longer than my last pair of H&M earrings that broke during their first day out... Allright, I hope I can post the full outfit tomorrow morning and give you happy spring feelings! Ciao!

You've seen the detail of this adorable bracelet on the blog yesterday and today it's time for the full outfit! Ever since I got my hands on this camel coat (best sale buy ever!) I wanted to pair it with a soft grey sweater. Finally I found a pretty one, so here we go! I can most definitely confirm that you'll see this combination popping up on Polienne more often. I don't have a lot of time to write right now but I hope I can please you with a bunch of beautiful photos today. All I have to add is that I'd like to order this gorgeous spring weather and light for the coming seven weeks, please. Photos by V. Verlinden

LONDON WISHLIST

TOPSHOP shirt dress ⎪ TOM DIXON candle⎪ ALDO sandals⎪ URBAN OUTFITTERS print⎪ TOPSHOP jeans ⎪ MONKI sunglasses ⎪ MONKI tee ⎪ LUSH sea spray ⎪ OFFICE slip ons

The boyfriend and I are celebrating our 6th anniversary this weekend, and since we like to do this in style we will be heading to the city of London for a short getaway! We're happy to stay at hipster heaven ACE Hotel and can't wait to enjoy the vibrant London vibes. We plan to do some touristic sight seeing, pay a visit to Shake Shack (our fave fast food!), go for a more refined dinner in the evening, stroll through hopefully sunny little streets, and of course do some shopping.

Now, this shopping plan won't be so easy. The idea of entering that massive Topshop store at Oxford Circus again already scares me, since I JUST CAN'T HANDLE IT. I've been there about four times now and I've never bought anything because of claustrophobic attacks that led to anxiously munching mini cupcakes at the food section while waiting for my friends. Okay, plus most of the time I just think the quality sucks. However, I'd like to look for this navy shirt dress, which I can picture as my new summer uniform. I'm also happy to pay another visit to UK shoe stores Aldo and Office! Those leopard slip ons are hunting me in my dreams and I'm determined to find the right pair for me. Furthermore I'd like to stroll around at Liberty, get me some basics at Uniqlo and some craziness at Monki, visit Victoria's Secret (just because) and maybe stop by at Urban Outfitters' furniture section as well. And what about doing some research on & Other Stories before their Antwerp shop opens this spring? Beauty-wise I'd like to stock up on Lush's sea spray or their Big shampoo to give my hair some extra oumpf. I'm crossing my fingers for Erin Wasson-like hair...

Any other beauty brands I should definitely check out? Or other stores I have to visit before leaving London? Cocktail bars maybe? Coffee places? Don't hesitate to throw some secret gems in my direction!

NIKE FREE RUN

H&M cardigan, scarf, jumper & bagFILIPPA K c/o skinniesNIKE free runs

What do you wear on days that your closet seems the most boring place in the universe? Instead of wearing my wardrobe's most excessive and colorful items to fight the plainness, I tend to go along in that boredom and grab my favourite basics. These include skinny jeans, stripes, some cashmere and neutral colours. The wool cardigan is a very recent addition to my closet but I'm pretty sure it will be one of my best friends soon, and not only on uninspired outfit-days. These Nike free runs are also new best friends and are glued to my feet for about two weeks now! I seriously don't care about other footwear anymore: I'm walking on clouds, they go with about everything and I'm feeling like a true hipster child. It's obvious that this is the only pair of shoes I'm going to bring to my trip to London on Saturday.

Oh yeah! London! I'm pretty excited since it will be my first time as a tourist and I finally want to see that Big Ben and Buckingham Palace (I've seen it when I was about 4 but children's memory capacities are so disappointing). Although I'm quite busy, I managed to squeeze in some extra writing time so there will be another outfit post for you guys this weekend! Bread and circuses, I guess — in your case that's probably blogposts and macaroons. Have a great almost-weekend, guys! Photos by The Styling Dutchman

WHITE BOYFRIEND JEANS

Seems like spring is really kicking in lately! I've worn my very first spring-y ensemble that turned quite a few heads while walking down the street. I think it's too bad that you "should not" wear white during fall or winter — people should be able to wear white in every season! I tried not to care and celebrated the first sun rays with my new white boyfriend jeans! Ever since spotting this picture I wanted a pair of my own and seems like I found some decent (and very affordable!) ones at Mango last month. Yey for that!

I also wanted to say a word about these beautiful pictures! My brother pulled out a real cool lens that blurs the heck out of that background so although the sun was already disappearing, it still looks smashing. You have to excuse my dolled up face, since I just finished a shooting and I could only remove half of the make-up. So say hello to irritated skin, pretty fresh lipstick and the remnants of a heavy smokey eye. Photos by Wriemis.

ELEONORA CARISI FOR ZALANDO

A little while your social media feeds have been flooded with a particular hashtag: #eleonoracarisiforzalando. The reason? Italian beauty Eleonora Carisi with the most iconic waves in bloggerland has designed a collection for Zalando with a very striking jungle theme. Zalando celebrated the birth of this new collection by inviting us for a lovely jungle-breakfast! In between the healthy-juice-sipping and french toast-munching we tried on our favorite items made from silk, organza and neoprene. The collection is not particularly cheap, but the materials and designs are worth it: these are  great statement items to invest in! The flowy organza skirt that will look marvelous in late spring (no wind can be involved though!) came home with me. I had a great time catching up with my fellow bloggers and pr-people and since photos speak louder than words, we should take a look at those! Have a wild day xx

WEEKEND TO LONDON

OASAP leopard jacket ⎪ ZARA scarf ⎪ H&M blouse, belt & ring ⎪ DIESEL skinzee jeans
RIB & HULL c/o leather bag ⎪ CELINE sunglasses⎪ NIKE free run sneakers

Hello London! Last week my boo and I celebrated our 6th anniversary and decided to go on a short lil' citytrip to a city we both hadn't visited too many times. This is what I was wearing on our first day! My current obsessions are khaki/army colours and boho-inspired accessories and this definitely translates in my outfit. The belt and ring are from the new H&M SS14 collection that apparently sold out in just a few hours. I was lucky to still get my hands on these accessories! The shawl is an item I got in sale somewhere in August and I just rediscovered it in my closet. How did I not see that shawls provide the perfect finish for a western-style outfit? Now, since we had some celebration and enjoying to do, I didn't care taking too many pictures but I'd like to share the few ones I snapped with my iPhone. Also, here's where we slept, ate and shopped:

SLEEP

We stayed at the marvelous Ace Hotel in Shoreditch East London, since I still had a 1 night-voucher from last time I spent the night there. I expected they'd give us the smallest room available but we got surprised with a gorgeous suite (sofa's and all!) that made us want to stay there forever. Ace Hotel is known for its minimalist design and great eye for detail and this is exactly what we loved about it. A little welcome note with a chocolate bar, their photo booth in the reception, personalized shower gels, a working record player plus a collection of fine jazz records and of course the fact that almost everything in your room is for sale!

FOOD

On Saturday we brunched at our hotel's restaurant, Hoi Polloi, which had a great atmosphere and of course a smashing interior design. The boy went for french toast with bacon, while I indulged in some classic ricotta pancakes with maple syrup. This restaurant also provided the room service breakfast we had on Sunday, when my boyfriend chose simple boiled eggs with soldiers and I went for the Barley porridge with quince, pear and ginger. Delicious! Sunday afternoon was reserved for burger restaurant Shake Shack, which we both LOVED when in New York two years ago. The location was definitely pleasant (Covent Garden) but we did conclude that the burgers in NY were better after all. The frozen vanilla custard was super yummy though!

On Saturday evening we booked a table at Bread Street Kitchen, a restaurant owned by the Ramsay (yes, Gordon!) Group. On the photos it looked extremely large and maybe a bit distant, but the menu looked very promising and we read something about a great cocktail bar downstairs. This last promise got fulfilled immediately: I dwelled over the delicious King For a Day (Ketel One Citroen Vodka, Yellow Chartreuse, fresh cucumber and lemon juices) while my boyfriend praised the classic Whiskey Saur. The interior looked way more cozy in real life so we were double pleased. On to the food then! I enjoyed a pizzetta of courgette, smoked mozzarella and red chilli and had the softest duck breast with Boulangère potatoes, cabbage puree and mulberry sauce afterwards. My love chose the seared yellow fin tuna with aji amarillo pepper dressing and corn kernels, which was probably the most surprising dish of the evening. Afterwards he had the Casterbridge rib-eye steak with hand-cut chips. We didn't want to spoil the delicious taste of our main dishes by having dessert so we just ordered more wine and whiskey! Overall I'd recommend Bread Street Kitchen, since it delivers a unique experience, yummy cocktails and fresh, tasty food.

SHOP

I had planned on raiding Oxford Street but by playing the tourist and enjoying the sunshine, we kind of lost track of time so I only managed to get a peek of Topshop, Monki and Cheap Monday. My wallet was happy though, for I didn't take anything home. For some reason I couldn't find the Lush store near Carnaby Street (they might have moved?) which was a shame since Lush is more expensive in Belgium. What did we do instead of shopping then? I made a compromise with the soccer-loving boyfriend and we went on a stadium tour at FC Chelsea, which was actually more fun than I had expected! Yup, we definitely had fun together!

THESE INTERIORS, PLEASE

Hi guys! It's been a while since my last interior post and I thought I'd share some of my current interior inspiration with you. Spring is definitely hitting town and I feel like throwing out all of my dark winter accessories and invest in new plants (never thought a cactus could get me so excited) and new prints to decorate my walls. Unfortunately I can't radically change my interior since we don't consider our apartment as permanent and would rather save up for the real deal later in life. Hence, most of our furniture exists of basic Ikea stuff, which I try to spice up with fun details that I can change with the seasons and with my mood. But I never stop dreaming of my future house and interior, that would be a mixture of rustic, industrial and something gypsy. The more antlers and furs the better, basically. Alright, let's start drooling!

1234567891011⎪ 12

But, this is not only an inspiration post! I've also included my current interior wish list, which mostly exists of smaller furniture accessories but starts out with a gorgeous cage-wardrobe by Ikea. Isn't it a beauty? It's for sale from April 1st and costs €129. Click click, into my shopping cart! Next up are some candle holders I would love to get my hands of and two prints that I've been trying to resist for over a month now. Is it time to finally order them? The bar cart is just amazing but I'm not sure if we have enough space in our apartment to give it a proper place, so this one is not yet decided on as well. Last but not least there's one of the many really cool lamps that Zara stocks. Hard to choose but this one stands out because of its elegance. Wish!

THAT GREY COAT

H&M grey coat ⎪ PULL&BEAR jumper ⎪ MONKI beanie
DIESEL jeans ⎪ ZARA ankle boots ⎪ RIB&HULL c/o leather bag

On my wishlist since forever: a drop-dead gorgeous oversized grey wool coat. Current status: CHECK.  I spotted this beauty here and here and immediately started looking out for it in store and online. It turned out to be an online exclusive item (and since there's no H&M webshop in Belgium..) but luckily sweet Joyce offered to order it for me and send it straight to Antwerp city! I got this coat for a ridiculous good price (€25 instead of the original €100) and I'm literally wearing it every day. I even refused to take it off on those two super hot spring days last week! Determination, that is. (Also known as stupidity).

Another item I'd like to focus on in this outfit is that amazing leather tote bag. I'm a sucker for buttery soft leather and this Rib & Hull bag is just a dream for carrying enormous amounts of random stuff and looking effortlessly cool while doing it. It's currently my favourite bag to take to university, since it's really solid and fits everything I need. But speaking of university, time for me to grab a book or three! Photos by Wriemis

LONDON CITY LOVE

0
0

Two weeks ago my boyfriend and I headed to the city of London for a short citytrip. We both had been there only a few brief times and never actually had the time to explore the city. Our 6th anniversary seemed like the perfect occasion to go and discover what London is really about! For some reason I have always cared more for Paris or Barcelona but I must admit that, besides those hyper expensive Oyster cards, the city has surprised me in a very positive way. Let me rephrase it like this: London is awesome because...

…it only takes you 2h from Belgium to get there by a smooth Eurostar ride
…waist-tied shirts with head-size sunglasses and Doc Martens = London uniform.
…people mind their own business but are very open and friendly at the same time. Don't try this in Paris.
…the hipster level is actually very reasonable.
…coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee.
…red phone cells (duh).
…you can find random art on every street corner.
…you can also find random sports on almost every street corner.
…shops are open 7/7 (!!) and very late in the evening.
…those old taxi's are just too adorable.
…hidden rooftop bars!
…pop-up stores, concept stores, multi-brand stores and so on.
…it doesn't matter if you wear something crazy; there's always someone looking more loco.
…you can actually find some great areas without tourists.
…lovely flower markets everywhere!
…they know how to do breakfast.
…sometimes it's sunny.

So tell me! What is your favourite aspect of London?

VERO MODA LACE TOP ⎪ MONKI denim shirt ⎪ DIESEL jeans
H&M necklace ⎪ PULL&BEAR earrings ⎪ BALENCIAGA bag ⎪ NIKE sneakers

I once had a lace top and although it was quite body-hugging (unlike this one) I wore it until it frayed apart. It's been a few years already since that dear old top had to leave my closet. No one wants a lace top with holes in it bigger than the lace ones, right? It was about time to welcome a new lace buddy in my wardrobe but since my style evolved from quite feminine to 'Nikes and jeans only, please', I went for a loose one this time. I found this one at Vero Moda (where I also stumbled upon two great 'wonder jeggings' and the beach shirt of my dreams! Sometimes it pays off shopping outside your comfort stores) and I predict a long life for it. Besides extremely versatile I find it incredibly sexy and the perfect girly touch to my look.

Of course my hair and make-up might be involved with that semi-sexy feel as well! Lately I've been experimenting a bit more with these unexplored disciplines and on this particular day I went for an eyeliner and a pair of smashing red lips. Next up is a lot of texturizer and a wild side parting to spice up my usual hair habits. Another unusual face-feature is the extension of my ear party! We tried to capture it in the penultimate photo, I hope you can see it? I'm dreaming of another little ring in my other ear, somewhere in between my helix and my lobe, but I'm not really looking forward to 4 months of losing sleep because of that fella. Anyway, I hope your Monday may be a great start of another wonderful week! Photos by Brunette Blogging

SUSHI CRAVINGS

0

I never expected rice and raw fish to become one of my favorite dishes of all times, but frankly, I could eat sushi all day every day. The temptation of actually live up this dream is quite big, since I live right across my favorite sushi place in Antwerp! I'm talking about Sushi Palace, my holy tuna and wasabi grail. My usual order consists of a dim sum mix, Dragon Eyes, Mama Mia, Tataki Roll Tuna and the First Street. I never order a regular combo but (try to!) choose between the special chef's rolls to get as many different flavours as possible. Obviously we just pick up our order in the restaurant most of the times, but it can be damn convenient to have your food delivered to your door. Sometimes we even order our sushi a few hours in advance so it can be delivered when we arrive home! Belgium's best-known delivery service is of course JUST-EAT.be, where the customers bombed Sushi Palace to best sushi delivery restaurant in the whole of Flanders! I fully agree on that, and whilst writing this I feel this sudden urge to order a delicious Sexy Roll… Now tell me, what is your favorite delivery food in the world? And have you ever tasted Sushi Palace?

ONLY shirt ⎪ VERO MODA wonder jeggings ⎪ HUMANOID scarf ⎪ STRADIVARIUS necklaces
CONVERSE sneakers ⎪ MICHAEL KORS watch ⎪ H&M bag ⎪ CELINE sunglasses

Hi guys! Spring is definitely kicking in (I know I've said this a hundred times before but it's just so excitiiiing) and I even went to uni without wearing a coat last week! The perfect opportunity to show off this great striped shirt I got at Only recently. Yes, another unexpected brand after my Vero Moda lace top I showed you this week! I had been looking for a striped summer shirt for quite a while since seeing the gorgeous Pandora Sykes rocking one here. I feel quite satisfied with this one, and love how the combination with the camel scarf (slash blanket), black and gold watch and white Converses makes the total look a bit preppy. And what's better to clash with a preppy look? A T-Rex earring - my thoughts exactly.

Now, I hope to take the sun from these pictures with me when leaving for Italy in two days! I haven't told you this, but I'll be heading to Pragelato for a super short ski trip with Club MedThe boyfriend and I couldn't go skiing this year so I'm pretty stoked to be enjoying the glorious mountain views again this weekend. While closely inspecting the rooms, spa, restaurants and the slopes I will take loads of pictures to provide you with a massive update of my travel section. The next important question: what to wear… Photos by Styling Dutchman
